Exploring the Barre

A somewhat lengthy visit from my sister! It was both enjoyable and grounding. There is something about being around family that presses the reset button. - I can interact with this person on any level and know that it will always be REAL. =) Shes the one on the RIGHT! - named Lara. I'm 2.5 years older and shes my only sibling!

As I adore Pure Barre, I can't help but feel the need to up the ante. My studio is not yet offering a consistent double tube (more advanced) class. I get it- fall is approaching and all the snowbirds are returning as well as many new people. They don't want to scare away new clients with an overly difficult class. BUT they are kind of letting down and potentially scaring away us oldies!! Pure Barre is designed to challenge you each time. Every class you are pushed further by yourself- to a shake point. But I can not help but notice there are just classes and instructors that are simply MORE CHALLENGING. I gravitate towards these - but it seems my fav instructors are so randomly scheduled now - and my inquiry to pure barre corporate of ever having a cardio component incorporated into their workout was met with a canned result.
 -
hence.
my interest in checking out booty barre! I know . . . .what a ridiculous name. I thought UGH You will never catch me at a place called the BOOTY BARRE!!!
- BUT - I went to the website thebootybarre.com and even though the blonde instructor sounds like a femme bot. . .. I enjoyed the CONCEPT of this.
INTERVAL CARDIO SCULPTING.
oh yes
sweet sweet words! how delicious! I must try!
-check out the video on the website if you like let me know thoughts too -especially if you have tried this!
So next month I will be trying this workout along with my first pilates and mat type things!

On to CLOTHES!
-
with this in my sink - I just put my lulu on hold for several months allowing them to get it back together and win me over.. . .
Those are my flash wunder under crops. I love them but WOW. bleed bleed bleed. - had them for months too and still that pink water!
- In the mean time.
I've been really enjoying wearing splits59. I'm totally addicted! I love this brand! Though they don't have all the trendy styles. I feel really cute and put together. I'm especially addicted to the ashby tanks. They have these awesome new capris -that also FEED my idea that everyone in the future should be wearing silver jumpsuits . . .and well. . . I guess we have arrived to the future!!
I'm totaly in love with the Splits59 GINGER 3/4 length tight - the black with black lame'. omg. its totally on the way to my imagined futuristic silver jumpsuit!!!!
check it!

Alright headed down the road to pure barre then brunch with my dear friend at this awesome place I love to eat called SIMONS COFFEE HOUSE.
- I have this ODD measuring stick of why I would LOVE a place or not. . . I totally judge them on the quality of their tomatoes. LOL.
- Some places have pale tasteless horrid tomatoes- but be all pomp and glitz in the front. . .my favorite places we unassuming! They have more money invested into food quality than excess in decor.
Not saying that I prefer to be at an establishment where the chef kills roaches with the same spatula he flips my egg whites with!!!! - Just sayin' tomatoes are key.
-
Have a fabu - fantastic - fabulous day!

  1. Ooh la la. I like the sound of Booty Bar. Well, like you I think the name's goofy but it sounds like a combination of cardio and fierce sculpting I would love. Why oh why don't I live somewhere civilized enough to offer this stuff?!

Aww, you and your sis are super cute together. Glad you had such a great visit with her.

The good news is that I haven't heard anything new about bleeding problems with Lulu clothes. Fingers crossed they've figured out the problem and have gotten it under control for good. I was feeling brave/reckless and recently bought a tank in a bright purple. I'm happy to report that so far I've had no problems. I've been keeping an eye out on Facebook, blogs, and reviews for any new issues cropping up and haven't heard a peep. They've even got a bright orange out and if that's not a bleeder I think we're in the clear.

    1. Ouchy on the Booty Barre! Wow! You'll be toned, sculpted and bootilicious before you know it. ;) A lot of the movements are very similar to yoga too. Just a lot more repetitions and minute adjustments/increments to a specific movement. You go Min! Rock the booty!!!

I primarily practice Shadow Yoga. Check out what it looks like at shadowyoga.com
Make sure to click on the Youtube link on the top left corner, to see it in action. That is Emma, the director of Shadow Yoga, and Zhander is her husband, and founder of Shadow Yoga and Nrtta Sadhana. I practice with them whenever they are close by CA. Doing the 10 day workshop with him in Berkeley (Sept) and a 3 day, in Portland (Oct). Very excited about that! :)

I love yummy tomatoes! I plant a selection of heirloom tomatoes every year. (No Early Girls or Beefsteak in my garden. I'm a "tomato snob"!) This year's seven varieties are pretty good. Love Peach Perfection (pretty big, but very juicy and sweet), Green Zebra (green and yellow stripes are visually very pleasing and has a sweet/tart flavor. Pink Lemon (taste lemony, yum!) is another favorite. My doggie, Reesee, loves Juliet and Banana Legs (what a name!). He'll sniff out the ripest and will gingerly pluck them and snack on it. :) So. I a "tomato snob" too. Totally understand your take on a good eating place being measured by the tomato it serves.

Hi to your sis and am happy that you had a very good visit with her. Keep blogging and we'll visit you often!

P/S: Sourkraut, same here with the new lulus. No bleeding issues for me, even with the currant Virtuous tank. Yay! Oh, I snagged a pair of Run: In The Sun Crop for $59 this morning. Now I'm waiting for the Sun Sprinter to make it's debut in the WMTM!

    3. Oh my goodness.....that yoga video makes me want to get out and do some yoga. It is so fluid and beautiful. The woman on the video is soooo flexible. I can only dream of being that limber. I'm a runner and can barely touch my toes. Yes, I know.....that's why I should take yoga classes. My inner and outer thighs are soooo inflexible too. I need to make time to do it.

I looked into PB. And WOW, it is expensive! It is offered at a studio that is 45 min away. I really would like to try it. But, I kinda take the "lazy" approach to fitness, put on running shoes and pound some pavement. I really would love to get into a PB class. I hope someone will offer it closer to home. Fingers crossed.

I love tomatoes. Yum. I am dying to try the pink lemon tomato. They sound incredible. I didn't realize there were so many varieties of tomatoes. Holy cow. Yogibabe, your dog sounds absolutely amazing. My beasts (2 labs, one yellow at 60 lbs, and one black at 90 lbs.) wouldn't even care if they were ripe! They would have torn my garden apart. They are like 2 bulls in a china shop.....something is going to get destroyed! I tried to grow a few things in our garden this past year, but we have rodents all around our neighborhood. That's the pleasures of living on the water in FL swamp land. YUCK. Basically, I was feeding the rodent population. As soon as the veggies and fruit were ripe enough to pick, they were gone. In order to stop attracting the lovely little guys, I had to destroy the garden. There was no way to keep them out. So sad:(

Minda, you and your sis are fabulous and gorgeous. My sister is a year younger than me. She completely grounds me too. You hit the nail on the head when it comes to family hitting your "reset button" . I completely agree. Keep on trucking girl! Keep us posted on the Booty Bar. Sounds great!

    4. yogibabe, I'm glad you snagged those crops. My pair, which I initially wasn't sure about because of the low rise, has really grown on me. They work great for both running and I wore them for tennis a few weeks ago. They might start low but they stay put, which is the feature I value the most in running crops. I hate to say it but even though I already own four pairs of crops and don't go running more than three times in a week I'd be tempted by the Sun Sprinters if they make it to markdown. I loooove the one pair I have and do wear them for things other than exercise. Probably my favorites of all my crops.

You're such a tomato connoisseur! I'd never even had a Zebra tomato until a few weeks ago when I was at my mom's house and she had one from the farmer's market. Great flavor, definitely unique. I'm impressed that you're able to grow all that yourself! I am a neglectful gardener so it's a miracle anything manages to survive and flourish in my sad little garden.

Kristin, I'm like you in that I'm too lazy to make the effort to go into the big city (Philadelphia) for Pure Barre, which is the closest location offering classes. Even if I could get over the expense I would need a big kick in the butt to get over there for classes. I'm hoping something crops up here in the suburbs for those of us who hate traffic. Maybe if they could hold them in my living room I'd see fit to attend once in a while.

    5. Kristin, my doggie is a little Jack Russell/Corgi (dad), Basenji/Chihuahua (mom-don't ask....I know it's odd!). We know his "pedigree" as his family, the human part, is a close family friend. Actually, he thinks he is a little boy! :) Being part Jack Russell, he is a digger. My husband built fences surrounding the planters. The tomato plants will drape out over the fence and that is where he does his harvesting, while standing on his hind legs, for a height booster. :) He was very naughty with the sugar snap peas, I caught him dragging a whole plant all over the backyard, while snacking on the peas. :(

Sourkraut, I am always very impressed with "crafty" people. To me, my gardening skill is miniscule when compared to your sewing/craft handiwork and especially your "to die for" cupcakes! I'm not much of a cupcake eater, but if I were to eat any, yours will be tempting me. :) Love the lemon blueberry on your blog. Might work myself into a creative frenzy and try out that recipe or....can you just please mail the finish product to me.... :)

    6. Sour, your cupcakes look DIVINE!! I love lemon. And oh, let's not forget about chocolate and PEANUT BUTTER! My mouth is watering just thinking of your little heavenly treats. I have got to make them. I am not a great baker but I can cook (it's in the genes...mom is Italian). I think it is an amazing skill to be a great baker, like you. It is hard work and takes a lot of practice. It usually takes me a few times before I perfect a dessert recipe. But totally worth the effort.

    7. Just wanted to let you guys know that I received my angel blue NLT yesterday. The color is faboo!!! :) The fit is great too, Honestly, I never really noticed much difference in any of my NLTs, fit wise. But mind you, I don't use it for running, so the support is not a crucial factor. Also, the fact that I'm an A/AA cup! Will definitely get other styles if they come in this color. Kinda regretting that I passed on the CRB, but that's okay.
Sour, let us know when your heathered angel blue CRB arrives and if you like it. I heard that it's quite sheer, which I don't mind for CRBs but not for bottoms, for obvious reasons.

    8. Thanks for the cupcake compliments. I do so love those things. Hence my need to buy workout clothes to keep the cupcake fat away. I just made some super indulgent ones last night for my co-worker who's going through a breakup type thing with her stupid boyfriend. She's been sitting at her desk across the room trying not to cry for two days so I figured some chocolate cupcakes filled with boozy ganache topped with coffee buttercream might help cheer her up. Sure enough they did the trick! Even got her eating again for the first time in, oh, almost four days.

yogibabe, I'd heard the same thing about the angel blue CRB but we'll see how tragic it really is on me. I'm not too worried since I'll be wearing a bra underneath. Not much else to see once that's covered. I'll have to be patient and wait until next Wednesday since they took forever to ship my order. Will let you lovely ladies know then how it looks. You're making me regret a little not buying the NLT in the same color but I'm secretly holding out hope there will be more of those in some dark fall colors soon. At that price I can't justify stocking up so will have to be selective and just get one or two more.

Over the past two days I've placed three more orders with Lulu. I'm so weak. I started reading good things about the reversible dense purple WUC and saw some cute pics of the denim dense purple ones so ordered both. My plan is to only keep one pair of colored pants to wear with boots and sweaters in the fall so I'll have to choose between those and the bordeaux WU pants once they all get here. I worry it'll be like Sophie's choice! I also broke down and ordered the Unity pullover. I'd tried it on in the store and loved it, but I'd just bought a Define and Scuba in the three weeks before that and didn't think I could justify dropping another $100+. But I've been thinking about it ever since then so will at least reconsider it once it gets here since I can always return it with the pile of stuff I already have by the door. With the huge return I'll be taking in to my store next week I doubt they'll be happy to see me.

    9. Just got back from the local showroom (we just got one about 2 weeks ago, YAY for me). The angel CRB is soooooo soft. I think it's the softest one I have ever felt. It is a little sheer. The asst mang at the showroom was wearing it w/ a ray free to be me bra underneath. You could see the bra. It is just sheer enough to see the color of the bra but not the outline of the bra. But it's softness may trump the fact it is slightly sheer. It is lovely. I didn't get one. Although, I bought the fossil/split pea speeds and angel turbo. LOVE. Take care ladies!

    10. Oh oh, Sourkraut! I like the Unity Pillover too, but I like this better! Serenity Sweater, reversible. (http://lulumum.blogspot.com/). Wiil be cute with leggings and boots. But at $148, ouch! This is a "must try before buy" item. I'm heading down to Santa Barbara, for yet another "birthday" celebration with the girls! So, I will wait till then to try it, if it's still available. (This year's birthday extravaganza seemed to be extending for over a month. Not that I'm complaning!) :)

    11. yogibabe, I've already been drooling all over that sweater at Lulumum. I call dibs!! I like the reversible aspect but at that price will really have to consider it. I'm hoping it comes out next week so I can see if I'd rather have that than the Unity top. Not sure I can justify the expense of both. Also, with my pear-shaped body I'd have to try it on and play around with it since I probably can't wear it pulled down like the gal in the pictures. My hips are far too wide for that.

I am a believer that birthday celebrations should be month-long affairs, complete with oodles and oodles of cake. For my 30th last year I took a trip to Napa and to Orlando in the span of a month. Hope you enjoy your trip!

Thanks for the report, Kristin. I think I'll be fine with the sheerness. The one CRB I have is the power purple one, which is apparently thinner than some others out there, and I happen to love it. I think knowing what to expect means I won't be disappointed.

    12. Sourkraut, if you get to try it first, let us know how it fits. Share your dibs with me. :)

Jeepers! Just noticed my replies are full of spelling errors!!! Unity Pullover became "pillover". Hopefully it is not known to "pill all over"! Heehee!

Also, in regards to the "bestest" tomato from my garden this year. It is the Persimmon, not Peach Perfection. Peach Perfection is the wrong moniker used up above. It's Yellow Perfection (which is easy to grow with abundance of fruits, but taste so-so). Persimmon is so yummy and juicy. It is peach in color. Just didn't want to give you guys wrong info.

Kristin, how is the fit of the Turbo tank this year? I did not like the one from last year because the opening under the bra part in the back gaped too much for me. The pictures looked like it fits tighter for this year's model. Don't you just love angel blue?! :)

Minda, did you get anything from these recent uploads and WMTM? I thought the Serenity Sweater that Sour and I are lusting over up above, will be cute with your new Frye boots!

  2. Psst! Ladies....since I love you guys so much, I'm going to share this with you. And if you already know of it, you know how dear you guys are to me, for me to share this with you! Suspense....

    Just bought this:
    http://www.6pm.com/frye-rory-scrunch-boot-dark-brown-leather

6pm is a subsidiary of Zappos. Prices are much, much better once items gets there. :) You just have to be patient and chance it that your size will still be available. If it's something that I "can't live without", I'll just bite the bullet and pay up full price.

Minda, can you make this blog a "super secret password required" just for us only? Heehee...so that we can share stuff like this. ;)
